Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
