Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
