When are You Going to Learn that Holdem Poker is About Position!
I’ve been wagering poker now for about five years, I’ve played cards my entire life starting with games of Gin Rummy for pennies with my Grand Mother, to all of the various types of Brag and basic random games such as Go Fish, Crash and one so gracefully called, card on head game. I used to always win, whatever game we were playing and even though I liked to call it skill, it was very tough to warrant considering the randomness of the games we were wagering, so I was happy to accept I was having a prolonged run of luck.
Then came Poker, or more importantly Holdem Poker, made popular by a bunch of Texas card gamblers in the 60’s and since developed into one of the largest card phenomena ever seen. Poker is totally the new black, it is super cool with several of the world’s leading celebrities racing to have their name connected with it. Just a quick scan through the TV channels these days and you can not escape from poker, and obviously there’s the fabled World Series of Poker, the Holy Grail and Mecca all combined into one for every individual player.
So with all of this fresh discovered recognition, with so a lot of Tv programmes devoted to poker, and magazine and book shelves loaded up with quality material written by the top minds on poker, when are individuals going to learn that this game is all about position!?
Perhaps I must not get so worked up about this, after all the much more individuals who struggle with the delicate techniques and methods necessary for winning consistently at Hold em, the far better it can be for everyone else, correct? I mean, if they can’t be troubled to read all of the available details about why placement is so crucial, why must we bother? We should just be happy there’s another fish at the table!
It is true, we should not reward procrastination with guidance and support. However, I liken this to a helpful casino game of football. Granted the stakes are not so high, except when you notice a player struggling, you aid them, offer them a few advice, ultimately showing them a method to get pleasure from, love and be grateful for the game as much as you. I’m calling on all home players to do the same thing with their poker friends who have not quite got a handle on the nuances of playing position. Help them to grow their respect for the game. Of course, don’t attempt to try this one in your nearby gambling establishment, the sharks will not appreciate you instructing their meal how to swim!
