Stu Ungar is considered by many to the greatest NL Holdem Poker gambler ever.
The three time World Poker Champ was born in New York in ‘53 and began betting poker prior to becomming a teenager.
The young gambler began playing gin and at the age of 10 had won his 1st gin tournament, while on vacation with his parents. By the time he turned fourteen the little poker maestro had become a professional and stopped going to school.
In ‘54 Stu Ungar entered the record books by succeeding 10 grand in a gin tournament without dropping a single hand, a record which still stands in New York today.
The fast talking superstar has been compared, in poker terms, to athletic superstars such as Joe Namath and Tiger Woods. Stu had a true ability for betting poker except regardless of his achievements in Hold’em poker, he preferred wagering gin.
Stu once said that there might several day be a better No Limit Hold’em player than him but he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a better gin player.
In 1980 Stu Ungar was put on the world map as one of the finest Texas hold em Poker players in the planet when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the very first time. Extraordinarily it was the 1st time he had entered the tournament.
The right after year he dismissed any suggestions that it had been a fluke, by effectively defending his title. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by winning his 3rd World poker championship.
But this poker legend also struggled with drug abuse and a year following succeeding his 3rd title Stu past away in his hotel room. According to medical professionals, he had died from cardiac arrest which was triggered by his lifestyle.
Stu Ungar had started out with absolutely nothing except his ability and talent for the game which made this poker excellent a millionaire quite a few times over.
