NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
