NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
