No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
