NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
