NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
