NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
