No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
