NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
