No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
