No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
