NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
