Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
