NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
