Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
