No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from others kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
