NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
