No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
