NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
