No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
