NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
